Join us after the 10:45am worship services for lunch and a discussion of Pasor Adam Hamilton’s sermon series “When Christians Get It Wrong.” This series explores some of the reasons many young people across the nation are avoiding church and looks at some of the information from David Kinnaman and Gabe Lyons’ book unChristian. Justice Jam 2009

Mark your calendars for Justice Jam, a benefit concert featuring Waterdeep. John Shirley from The Gathering will lead worship, and Rob Morris, co-founder of Love146, will explain how the organization works to fight child sex slavery and exploitation. Also, you can check out the Facebook event and help spread the word by inviting your friends to the concert!

A suggested donation of $10 will be accepted at the door.

Christmas Caroling

One of the Resurrection Young Adult Small Groups is going Christmas caroling and wants to invite any other young adults to come along!

When: Thursday, December 18th
Time: Meet between 6 and 6:30. We will help the residents to their seats so get there as soon as you can.
Where: The Greens at Creekside (Blueridge & Wornall)
What: We will be singing Christmas songs (feel free to make some suggestions). If the residents are up to it, we will play games with them afterward.

Christmas Sweater Party and Hillcrest Open House

It was an awesome weekend for Resurrection Young Adults! We had our very first Christmas Sweater Party, which produced some amazing Christmas outfits. Check out some of the outfits below.

This weekend was the Hillcrest Transitional Housing Open House for their newest facility. Over the past several months, dozens of young adults at Resurrection have put in a lot of hard work into this facility. It was really cool to see some of the apartments finished and ready to house residents. A group will be going back to Hillcrest on Dec. 20 to work on finishing up a couple more of the apartments. Let me know if you’re interested in serving there!

Christmas ‘08 Mission Project - Winter Care Bag Drive

Young Adult Ministry at Resurrection is partnering with Connections Ministry, Resurrection West home-based Small groups, Resurrection home-based small groups, and Westport UMC to create Winter Care Bags for the homeless in KC! Our Goal is to collect 175 bags!

You can help reach this goal by bringing gallon zip lock bags filled with a toothbrush, chapstick, and deodorant to our Christmas Sweater Party on Dec. 7.

If you cannot attend the party, please drop your bag/s off at the Connection Point by Dec. 14. There will be a Christmas gift box there for your donations. Thanks so much for serving!

Tacky Christmas Sweater Party

Here we are just a couple of days away from Thanksgiving. I hope that everyone has a great time with family and friends and that everyone travels safely.

Don’t forget that on December 7th we’ll be having our Tacky Christmas Sweater Party at 6:30pm in the Student Center at Resurrection. We’ll be providing dinner, but people are welcome to bring desserts. We’ll be playing some Christmas games, listening to Christmas music, and having a contest for the tackiest Christmas outfit.

So, mark your calender and start looking for some outfits!

Back in America

Hey everyone! This is Nathan writing again, after getting back from Africa a few days ago. We had an absolutely amazing trip and I’ll be posting some pics on my personal blog in a few days. Also, feel free to email me or ask me about the trip!

I wanted to remind everyone of a couple of things coming up this weekend. First off, any young adults who are interested can spend a few hours serving others this Saturday morning at 9am. We’ll be doing painting at one project and then serving food at another project. Second, we’ll be having lunch every week after this Vibe, starting this Sunday. It’s a great way to meet some new people and hang out together in a smaller group. Just meet by the rock wall in the student center at noon.

Post-Vibe Lunch

One of my favorite things to do after a worship service has always been to go out with friends and share a meal. Beginning on November 16, join with other young adults after The Vibe (this worship service begins at 10:45am in the Student Center) for lunch. We’ll meet immediately following the service in the cafe area in the back of the Student Center to choose a local restaurant - or two or three if there’s a lot of us! - for lunch. Don’t worry if you’ve never been to another Young Adult gathering; we’d love to have you join us. This will be a great time to discuss what we experienced in worship, to find out what’s going on in the Young Adult Ministry, and, most importantly, to meet new people and connect with each other. I look forward to “breaking bread” with you!

Liberty Corn Maze

Our next Young Adult Get Together is this Saturday, October 25. We’ll meet at 5pm in Parking Lot C at the church (that’s the southeast lot near Roe Ave) to carpool to the Liberty Corn Maze. This is the “largest corn maze in Missouri” with several miles of paths throughout the 4 mazes in one. Weather Saturday should be cool and clear, but all the rain these next few days will make the maze pretty muddy - be sure to dress with that in mind!

We’ll spend about two hours navigating the maze, and then head to a restaurant for a late dinner. This will be a great way to enjoy the fall weather and connect with other young adults. See you there!

Heading to Africa & GPS

Hello Resurrection Young Adults! I want to let you know that I (Nathan) will be gone for the next few weeks on a mission trip to South Africa. I’ll be leaving this week and won’t be back until November 8. Angela will be blogging while I’m gone and keeping you all informed on what is going on for young adults at Resurrection. I would really appreciate your prayers while I’m gone!

Also, during your prayer time, I want to remind you that our daily GPS guide is available via email. You can sign up to receive the GPS every morning. I, like you, sometimes struggle with remembering to spend time in daily prayer and scripture reading. So, receiving the GPS in my inbox every morning is a huge help!
